 Learn Craps Rules
The game of craps is not the type of game you will learn in five minutes. It is, however, easy to learn small parts of it and begin playing immediately. There are many different types of bets which may be wagered. Craps is a game that uses dice to determine the winners and losers of the wagers.

It is best to read these rules and print them out. Then download some casino software in the Play Craps area and play for play money. It’s always best to use play money when learning.

Pass Line Bet

The Pass Line Bet is one of the most common wagers made. This is a even money bet. If you bet $1 and hit a 7 or 11 with your roll then you will win. If a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 is hit on the first roll, that number will become the point number. Now say you rolled a 5 on your come out roll. In order to actually win the Pass Line Bet you must now try to roll a 5 before you roll a 7. You only lose the bet if you hit a 7 and you only win when you hit a 5 before hitting that 7. This means you may roll any other number and it will not affect your wager.

Taking the Odds

After the come out roll occurs, all players who bet on the Pass Line Bet may make another bet called “taking the odds”. This bet is like betting even more money that you will hit the point number before you hit the 7. The only difference is that with this bet you get great odds. In fact there is no house edge on this bet! This makes it the best bet in Craps.

Craps Odds

4 & 10 have a payout ratio of 2:1.
5 & 9 have a payout ratio of 3:2.
6 and 8 have a payout ratio of 6:5.

Don't Pass Line Bet

This is the exact opposite of a Pass Line Bet. You are betting against the shooter from hitting his point again. A 7 or 11 on the come out roll loses the bet while a 2 and a 3 win. After the point number is established if you are betting on Don’t Pass Bar you are betting that the player will hit a 7 before he hits his point number.

Come Bets

This bet may only be made after the point number has been established. Like all bets it must be made before the dice is rolled. This bet wins if the next roll is 7 or 11 and loses if its 2, 3 or 12. If any other number is rolled then it will become the Come Point. This means that the bet is now moved from the Come area to the Come Point Number. Then in order to win the bet the shooter must roll the Come Point before a 7. This bet can not be altered until the Come Point is rolled or a 7 clears the board.

Don't Come Bets

This is the opposite of a Come Bet. It is similar to a Don’t Pass Line Bet. The only difference is that a Don’t Come Bet may be removed at any time from the table.

When Taking the Odds with a Don’t Come Bet the Odds are reversed. Instead of a 2:1 payout ratio on 4 & 10 it is a 1:2 payout ratio. See Odds above and reverse.

Field Bets

This is a bet that the next roll of the dice will be a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12. If a 2 is rolled the payout ratio is 2:1. If a 12 is rolled the payout ratio is 3:1. The rest of the field numbers pay even money. If a 5, 6, 7 or 8 is rolled then the field bet is lost.

Big 6 & 8

You have the option of betting on Big 6 or Big 8. This is a bet that 6 and/or 8 (depending on which one you bet on) will be rolled before a 7. It is an even money bet and may be removed at any time.

Place Bets

You may place a bet on the actual numbers themselves, betting that number will be rolled before a 7. Payout ratios are: 7:6 on 6 & 8; and 7:5 on 5 and 9; and 9:5 on 4 & 10.

You may also place a bet that a particular number will not be rolled before 7. Payout ratios are: 4:5 on 6 & 8; and 5:8 on 5 & 9; and 5:11 on 4 & 10.

Buy Bets

With a Buy Bet you can bet on a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10. There is a 5% charge on any profits from this bet. The payout ratio for a Buy Bet is: 6:5 on 6 & 8; and 3:2 on 5 & 9; and 2:1 on 4 & 10.

Lay Bets

A Lay Bet is the reverse of a Buy Bet. This is a bet that 7 will be hit before the selected number. The payout ratios are: 5:6 on 6 & 8; and 2:3 on 5 & 9; and 1:2 on 4 & 10.

7 Bet

This is a bet that a 7 will be rolled during the very next roll of the dice. The payout ratio is 4:1.

Craps Bet

This is a bet that a 2, 3 or a 12 will be rolled next. The payout ratio is 7:1.

Horn Bets

All Horn Bets are bets that last only one roll. This is a bet that either 2, 3, 11 or 12 will be rolled next. The payout ratios are displayed on the table and can be quite high. You can bet on any ONE of the above numbers to hit individually or you can place a Horn Bet that is a bet that any number in that group may hit. The only difference is when you bet on the group you are giving up ¾ of the payout due to the odds of hitting being more likely when you bet on 4 numbers as opposed to just one.

Hardway Bets

These are bets that are normally marked on the table. It is a bet that a specific combination of dice, normally doubles, will be rolled before a 7. For example you can bet that the dice will be 2+2 or 3+3 (etc). This is like betting on a 4, but the dice must be 2 and 2. If a 3 and 1 come on the dice it does not count. The payout ratios are usually displayed on the table as well.
